(Quran 54:17)
“And indeed We have made the Qur’an easy for you to understand and remember: Is there any that will receive caution?”
In this noble verse, ALLAH swt says that Quran is the book of understanding and to understand it and then to remember that understanding is the real purpose of Quran. Quran is the book with warnings against the evil and devils. But we see people around us who open Quran and start reciting it and when they are asked what are they reading, they are unable to tell the meaning of what they read. Quran is the book, not to be treated as a book of magic or some book with alien power, but it’s a book of guidance so that we can take guidance from it and spread its light.
Regarding the reward to reciting quran, there is an authentic hadith,
Sunan At-Tirmithee #2910
"Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that "Alif, Laam, Meem" is a letter, rather I am saying that "Alif" is a letter, "laam" is a letter, and "meem" is a letter."(Al-Albaanee authenticated it in Saheeh Sunan At-Tirmithee (3/164))
In another hadith, Muhammad s.a.w.w said:
Aaishah, may Allah be pleased with her, relates that the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said:
Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have twice that reward.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
This hadith mubarika tells us a very important thing. The recitation of Quran should not be done as if we are reading some ordinary thing. This kalam is the purest and the truth, so it should be presented as truth and with purity. This does not mean people with beautiful voices will get that reward, it only means that everyone who tries to recite this book with love, care and with purity of soul will get reward. And we cannot do that if we do not know what we are reading.
In another hadith, it was said:
Jibreel used to come to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) every night in Ramadaan, and study the Quran with him. Narrated by al-Bukhari, 5; Muslim, 4268.
There are some people who read quran by heart, and memorize it. There was many hufaz at the time of prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w and this chain has not broken yet. These hufaz kown the living copy to quran which cannot be burnt, tore apart, or wasted. And this is one of the biggest blessings of ALLAH swt over umat-e muslimah.
There is a hadith about the people who hifz quran:
Such a person who recites the Quran and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Quran by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward." (Sahih Bukhari: book #60, Hadith #459)
Those who recite daily, prophet MUhmammad s.a.w.w said about them:
Abu Musa narrated that the Prophet said,
The example of a believer who recites the Qur’an is that of a citron (a citrus fruit) which is good in taste and good in smell. And the believer who does not recite the quran is like a date which has a good taste but no smell. And the example of an impious person who recites the Qur’an is that of Ar-Rihana (an aromatic plant) which smells good but is bitter in taste. And the example of an impious person who does not recite the quran is that of a colocynth which is bitter in taste and has no smell." (Al Bukhari: Book #93, Hadith # 649)
Quran will be our companion and will stand beside us on the day of judgment.
Aboo Umaamah relates that the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said:
"Read the Qur'an, for verily it will come on the Day of Standing as an intercessor for its companions.” Saheeh Muslim #1871 (3/330 of Sharh An-Nawawee).
Make this your habbit to recite quran, so that you can get hidayat from this beautiful text and be able to spread it.
